The specialty

Let's be real. A piano isn't furniture. It's an investment, a source of joy, and sometimes a family treasure.

The move that earned us Carnegie Hall.

Most movers handle a piano like it's a heavy dresser. Just Better Moving doesn't. Piano dollies sized to the instrument, skid boards, custom padding, and crew trained on the rigging. Stair carries, hoists, tight-turn navigation: the kind of work where the piano arrives in tune and the floors arrive unscratched.

  • Steinway authorized handler
  • Yamaha specialty mover
  • Carnegie Hall instrument transport
  • 200+ piano moves per month

Just Better Moving crew on the job in Parsippany, NJ

Just Better Moving

Built on craft. Run by movers.

Three trucks. Ten-plus years. One standard of care.

About Just Better Moving

The crew that treats your couch like a Steinway.

Just Better Moving was founded in Parsippany in 2014 around a single idea: every move should be done for people, not to them. The crew that shows up should care about the dresser arriving without a gouge, the piano arriving in tune, and the Saturday not getting wrecked. The company is still run that way.

The piano specialty grew out of necessity. The team started moving pianos as favors, then as a paid service, and now the work runs 200+ moves a month: Steinways, Yamahas, full grands for venues including Carnegie Hall. The same care that gets a Steinway down a four-floor walk-up is what every couch, china cabinet, and dad's old desk gets too.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered honestly.

What areas do you serve?
We serve homes and businesses throughout New Jersey (including Parsippany, Hoboken, Jersey City, Morristown, and surrounding counties), plus the New York metro and into Pennsylvania for longer hauls. If you don't see your town listed, give us a call: we move there too.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Just Better Moving is fully licensed by the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs and insured for residential, commercial, and specialty (piano) moves. We carry full liability coverage on every job.
Do you provide Certificates of Insurance (COIs)?

Many apartment buildings, condos, co-ops, and commercial properties require a Certificate of Insurance (COI) before moving day. Just Better Moving can provide COIs upon request for buildings that require proof of insurance coverage.

Please note:

  • COI requests should be submitted as early as possible prior to your scheduled move.
  • Building management requirements vary and may include specific wording or additional insured entities.
  • Some buildings may require advance approval processing time.

Our office will work directly with your building management to help ensure all required documentation is properly submitted before your move.

What kinds of pianos do you move?
Uprights, baby grands, full grands, and digital pianos. We've moved Steinways, Yamahas, and concert instruments for venues including Carnegie Hall. Every piano gets straps, padding, dollies sized for the instrument, and a crew trained on the rigging.
Can you move a piano up or down stairs?
Yes. We do stair carries on uprights and grands routinely. For tight turns or high-floor walk-ups we'll send extra crew or schedule a hoist if needed. We'll walk through it on the call before quote-time so there are no surprises.
How is pricing calculated?
Most local moves are priced by crew size and time, with a flat travel charge. Long-distance, commercial, and piano moves are quoted as flat rates so you know the number before we start. Either way, we give you an estimate before you commit. No day-of surprises.
Do you require a deposit?
For most local moves, no deposit is required. You pay at the end of the move. Piano specialty moves and commercial jobs may require a small deposit to lock in a date; we'll explain what applies during the quote call.
What payment methods do you accept?

We keep payment simple and accept most common methods:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • ACH
  • Zelle
  • Venmo
  • Credit card (3% processing fee)
How far in advance should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most moves. Peak summer weekends and end-of-month dates fill up faster. Earlier is better. For last-minute moves give us a call: we keep some bandwidth available for short-notice work.
Do you offer packing services?
Yes: full-pack, partial-pack, or just unpacking-on-the-other-end. We provide the boxes, paper, and tape; you tell us how much you want to do yourself. Specialty packing (artwork, china, electronics) is included automatically.
Can you store my belongings between moves?
Yes: short-term and long-term storage in climate-controlled facilities. Useful when closing dates don't line up or for renovations. We can move items into storage and out to your destination as a single coordinated job.
Is there anything you can't move?
Hazardous materials (paints, fuels, ammunition, propane) and perishable food can't be moved by federal regulation. Live plants, pets, and personal documents we recommend you transport yourself. Everything else, say the word.
How much does a local move in NJ cost?
Local moves in NJ typically run $300–$1,500 depending on home size, crew, and distance. Hourly crew rates run roughly $100–$200/hr. Piano moves start around $390 plus stair, distance, and rigging surcharges. Use our estimator for a tailored number, or call and we'll walk through it.
How much does a long-distance move cost?
Long-distance moves typically run $2,000–$5,000 depending on home size, total weight, and miles. We quote long-distance as a flat rate. You'll have the number before the truck leaves the yard, not a surprise at delivery.

Have a different question? Drop it in the form and we'll get back to you personally.
